Gels Cleaning Research (1998-2003)

Initially, three main research areas were identified. Three others were added in the early stages of the project, including the process of dissemination. A description of the research methods and results will be issued as a volume in the GCI scientific publication series, Research in Conservation.

Component One: Quantitative Measurement of Gels and Gels Component Residues

Component Two: Aging Characteristics of Surfactant Components

Component Three: Analysis of the Surface of Paintings Cleaned during the Past Ten Years Using the Gels Systems

Component Four: Quantitative Measurement of Organic Solvent Retention and Residue

Component Five: Dissemination of the Results

Component Six: Parameters for Designing a Specific Gel Formulation
