Changing the Way Professionals Work: Collaboration in the Preservation of Ethnographic and Archaeological Objects

A team including a toxologist, conservator, conservation scientist, and members of the Hopi tribe discuss how to interpret X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy data from Hopi objects. Analysis revealed the presence of heavy metals (i.e., arsenic, mercury, and lead) in pigments, and possible pesticide residues—both potential health hazards.
