A Responsibility for the Past: Integrating Conservation and Archaeology
A project team member documenting the west face of the Castillo at the Maya site of Xunantunich in Belize. In the early 1990s, the GCI worked with archaeologists from UCLA and the Department of Archaeology in Belize on a collaborative project at Xunantunich to address problems of conserving archaeological sites in humid tropical zones. The site was chosen in part because it offered an opportunity to integrate conservation with an ongoing excavation. Photo: Guillermo Aldana.
