A Responsibility for the Past: Integrating Conservation and Archaeology
An archaeological excavation at the Ballona wetlands in the Playa Vista section of Los Angeles, California. Increasingly, archaeology is being conducted at sites such as this that confront imminent development. The Ballona wetlands, once home to a number of prehistoric peoples, today lie amid a large area of current and proposed residential and commercial development. Since 1989, a program of environmental reconstruction and archaeological investigations has been conducted at the site—much of it performed in conjunction with this development.
