Detail of the head of a baboon on the west wall shows a fine vertical crack. Conservation and Management of the Tomb of Tutankhamen

Detail of the head of a baboon on the west wall shows a fine vertical crack, as well as surface dust. In the past, conditions such as this crack were treated (as can be seen from the injection holes visible along the crack) as it was thought to be at risk. Evidence suggests otherwise, that this crack is instead stable. Diagnosis of risk is an important objective of the overall project. In order to assess risk regular condition monitoring is being undertaken using a photographic record for comparison. Photo: Lori Wong
