Conserving Modern Architecture Initiative Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut, designed by Le Corbusier, 1954, Ronchamp, France. Popularly known as Ronchamp, the chapel is an important example of twentieth-century religious architecture. It is sited high on a hill and is comparatively small, enclosed by thick walls, its upturned roof supported on columns embedded within the walls. It is a site-specific response uniquely integral with the surrounding environment. Photo: 1998. © 2012, Scott Gilchrist. Image from stock.archivision.com. |
