Metropolitan Cathedral of Brasilia designed by Oscar Niemeyer, 1970, Brasilia. Part of the larger cultural complex in the city of Brasilia that was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1987, the cathedral was constructed using a concrete-framed hyperbolic structure. It is comprised of 16 columns with a curvilinear glass roof that forms an uninterrupted open interior space. Photo: 1989. © 2012, Scott Gilchrist. Image from
