Although education in conservation has been provided in numerous academic contexts around the world for several decades, the field still suffers from a shortage of targeted didactic materials. The GCI currently has two projects that address this situation:
- a Web-based resource for conservation educators, which makes many of the GCIs own teaching materials available to a wider audience; and
- the publication series, Readings in Conservation.
Web-based resource Making the results of the GCIs work available to teachers and students will be an increasingly important part of the Institutes educational mission. The GCI is in the process of establishing an online resource for conservation educators that will be accessible through www.getty.edu. This online resource will share with other conservation educators the text and visual teaching materials produced as part of GCI education projects, along with information on teaching methodologies relevant to conservation education and training.
The GCI is also exploring other ways the Internet provides new opportunities for the dissemination of didactic materials, information and ideas, as well as for easier collaboration among institutions and individuals involved in conservation education.
Readings in Conservation Specifically intended for conservation education, Readings in Conservation collects and analyzes important conservation texts. In so doing, it helps to establish a body of information that is representative of the collective knowledge that currently defines the conservation discipline and its related fields.
