Life of Saint Cecilia (Christian iconography)

Note: Narratives surrounding the life of St. Cecilia, from Martyrologium Hieronymianum. According to her legend, she was forced by her parents to marry a nobleman named Valerian, although she vowed to remain a virgin. During the wedding, Cecilia sat apart singing. She refused to consumate the marriage and revealed to her husband the angel that watched over her. She was martyred for her faith; after being struck three times on the neck with a sword, she lived for three days. She is the patron saint of musicians.
