Bartolomew, Saint (Christian character)

Note: Apostle and martyr, traditionally held to have been martyred by flaying in Armenia. Although scholars now believe the "Nathanial" referred to in the Bible is not intended as Bartholomew, an ancient tradition maintains that "Nathanial" is a variant name for Saint Bartholomew. Often portrayed with a knife, symbolizing his death by flaying.
