Hanging Gardens of Babylon (hanging gardens; unknown Babylonian; according to legend, patron was Nebuchad...; by tradition, possibly built b...)
Note: Gardens that were considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World; by tradition, thought to be located near the royal palace in Babylon, built to honor Queen Semiramis. It has been suggested that they were rooftop gardens. No contemporary documentation or imagery depicts them at Babylon, however. An alternative theory is that the stories referred to earlier terraced gardens, actually located 250 miles to the north, at Nineveh, but mistakenly or for political reasons, placed at Babylon in the stories.
