Note: London church situated on the grounds of a former Benedictine monastery and an 11th-century abbey built by Edward the Confessor. King Henry III's devotion to Saint Edward inspired him to construct a newer church on this site with a new shrine for the Saint. The abbey’s construction was strongly influenced by the French Gothic cathedral architecture. Since 1308 Westminster has served as the site for coronations.
