Half Model for the Dome and Drum for St. Peter’s, Rome (architectural model; design by Michelangelo, executed by unknown carpenter, proba...; 1558-1561)
Note: The model was probably completed under the direction of Michelangelo. Michelangelo initially produced a clay model; this wooden model was made by a carpenter. Alterations were made to the model in the course of the century, probably by Giacomo della Porta, who modified the external structure, and by Luigi Vanvitelli, who carefully copied damage encountered by the real dome onto the model.
