Note: Relief in schist representing the "hamsa jataka" or birth story of the gander. This relief is the only known example illustrating this jataka from the Pala period and may have formed part of a larger composition. Gray-brown schist commonly was used in the Bodhgaya region. Represented is a figure of a king with hands folded reverently kneeling before two ganders placed on pedestals to indicate their divine status.
