Note: One of two temples that form the complex known as Abu Simbel. The facade includes six colossi of Ramses II and his wife Nefertari. In the mid-20th century, the reservoir that was created by the construction of the nearby Aswan High Dam threatened to submerge Abu Simbel. Between 1963 and 1968 both temples were disassembled and reconstructed on high ground more than 200 feet above the previous site. In 1979 Abu Simbel, and other nearby sites were collectively designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
