| Note: This terracotta pig has short, stumpy legs and a slit behind its head. It is a piggy bank. The animal is badly damaged: the rear is completely broken off. The piggy bank is centuries old; it was made in East Java in the fourteenth or fifteenth century. Many similar money boxes have been dug up in this region, some still full of coins. They come in all kinds of animal and human forms. The boar is a particularly popular form. | |
