Schildersatelier (easel painting (painting by form); Adriaen van Ostade (Haarlem 1610 - Haarlem 1685-04-28); ca. 1630/1685; Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands); SK-A-298; RM001.collect.4902)

Note: A painter is working in his studio, a simply-furnished attic room. On the easel is a panel on which the artist is painting a kind of town gate. He is steadying his hand with a maulstick, enabling him to work with greater precision. Much of the room is dark. The colours are also dark and almost monochrome: Adriaen van Ostade used almost exclusively brown and beige tints. The only colour accents are the red cap of the artist and the blue sky. Is this Van Ostade himself, in his own studio? Possibly. But it is not really certain.

Dutch ..... Interieur van een schildersatelier. Bij een venster zit een schilder voor een schilderij op een ezel. Hij schildert met de rechterhand geleund op een schildersstok. In het atelier zet een gezel de verven op een palet en wrijft een leerjongen verf op een steen.
