Note: "ETATS GE�NE�RAUX / Taxe desirée pour 1790 / Pain ... 8 s / ... / Vive le Roi / Vive la Nation / A.P."--printed on sheet nailed to wall; "Reunion des 3 Ordres."--printed below the three busts enclosed in a medallion and flanked by the scales of Justice; A cobbler encourages his wife Margot to remain patient and hopeful that prices will decrease for the goods she is carrying: bread, meat, and wine; The reconciliation of the three orders, the Third Estate, the clergy, and the nobility, illustrated by three busts in the background, is associated with the hoped-for decrease of taxes and prices, listed on a sheet nailed to the wall. This impression is a variant of de Vinck 2066 and Blum 88, with reversed positions for the main figures. There are no inscriptions on the foodstuffs carried by the female ; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no. P980009*). Publication: [ca. 1789].
