Note: A variant titled Dernière ressource des Jacobins was announced in the Journal de la cour et de la ville on February 15, 1792; On August 3, 1792, Mayor Pétion called on the Legislative Assembly to depose the King; The print is a satire on the relations between King Louis XVI of France and Jérôme Pétion, the mayor of Paris and a member of the Jacobin Club; The setting is a public square with a statue of the king in its center. A donkey kicks at the statue, breaking wind. The inscription "PET" (fart) appears above his posterior and that of "HION" comes out of his mouth. Combined, the inscriptions create the name Péthion or Pétion; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no. P980009*). Publication: [ca. 1792].
