Note: The arch was commissioned by King Carlo of the Two Sicilies who, as son of Isabella Farnese of Parma and King Felipe V of Spain, had ruled as duke of Parma from 1732 to 1734. It was designed by the Florentine Ferdinando Fuga, who worked for Cardinal Troiano Acquaviva d'Aragona, the print's dedicatee; Giovanni Battista Sintes, also known as Sintos, a student of the French printmaker Benoît Farjat, was active as an engraver and etcher in Rome; The print shows a triumphal arch erected in honor of Pope Benedict XIV's taking possession of San Giovanni in Laterano on April 30, 1741 ; The ephemeral arch was erected near the Orti farnesiani in the Campo vaccino or Forum. Its opening reveals the nearby Arch of Titus; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**).
