Note: The architect, painter and stage designer Giovanni Niccolò Servandoni was active in Paris and received commissions at several royal courts in Europe; Inscriptions on fireworks structure: GEORGIUS. II REX. // VIVAT REX; Inscription in lower right of image: The Firework's principally perform'd by the Sign:ri Gaetano Ruggieri, and Giuseppe Sarti of Bolognia; Inscription in the plate's lower margin: By Order of his Grace the DUKE of MONTAGU Master General, and the Right Hon.ble the L.t General and the rest of the principal OFFICERS of his Majesty's Ordnance; / and performed by the Direction of Charles Frederick Esq.r Comptroller of his Majesty's Laboratory at Woolwich; The print depicts a fireworks structure designed by Giovanni Niccolò Servandoni to be erected in Saint James's Park, London, 1749, in celebration of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle that ended the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48); A palace is shown in plan and elevation with a scale.
