Note: French printmaker from Valognes, Normandie, also active in Paris; The prints document Japanese objects from the collection of French art critic and collector Philippe Burty, a leading exponent of Japonisme in France; Plates 1-5 and 7, numbered and titled in French with mention of Bury's collection, show a wood mask, an ivory drug jar, a bronze statuette, a porcelain tea box, a tin vase, and a bronze frog inkwell. Plates [6] and [8], of a bronze knight and the boat of Daikoku are unnumbered and captioned in Japanese. The back cover print simulates a bookplate embellished with a butterfly and a dragonfly; it is joined with the front cover to form a folder. The prints display various techniques and are inked in different colors: red, brown, black, green and blue; Contents: Pharmacie ivoire --; Génie bronze --; Bo ite à thé porcelaine --; Vase étain lacqué --; Bronze encrier. Publication: 1885.
