Note: Following the Peace of Leoben negotiated between Napoleon and Archduke Charles of Austria, the last doge, Ludovico Manin, was deposed on May 12, 1797. A democratic municipality was imposed in Venice, replacing the republican government; The print depicts a civic festival held on June 15, 1797 in Piazza San Marco, Venice, after the fall of the Venetian republic; Neoclassical temples and loggias adorn the perimeter of the square. French guards stroll the Piazza San Marco, in the center of which a tree of freedom has been erected; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
