Note: The print depicts the water procession with the ducal Bucintoro, held in Venice on Ascension Day for the ceremony of the marriage of the sea. The cortège is set near the mouth of the lagoon, where a break in the Lido opens Venice to the Adriatic. San Nicolò di Lido, where a pilgrimage visit is made after the benedictio rite is accomplished, appears in the background. The procession of vessels includes gondolas for foreign ambassadors and private gondolas, as well as pilot boats (peote); Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
