Cupola di S. Maria in Campitelli; Date from: Robison. Dated 1757 by Hind; Starting in the 1740s and continuing throughout his career, Giovanni Battista Piranesi produced large-format plates, issued individually or in sets, known as the Vedute di Roma; The view of the Theater of Marcellus, from the Vedute di Roma, sets the theater in the crowded Piazza Montanara. Also known as the Palazzo Orsini, the theater begun by Caesar, completed by Augustus, and dedicated to his nephew Marcellus, was converted into a palace by the architect Peruzzi; Vertical fold in center. Publication: [1749?-1750].
