[View of ancient city with port] (etching (print); Dominique Barrieēre (French etcher, ca. 1618-1678); Published: 1600s; Getty Research Institute, Special Collections (Los Angeles, ...; 566165; (CMalG)1366-954; accession number: P910002** (FF. 750);)
Note: Dominique Barrière, a draftsman, engraver and etcher from Marseille, was documented in Rome from 1640 when he issued a print in Famiano Strada's De bello Belgico. He engraved prints after the landscape painter Claude Lorrain, as well as views and monuments of Rome; The print depicts an ancient city and a port, with two active volcanoes in the background. A king followed by soldiers walks from a triumphal arch on the left. Fame holds a coat of arms of the Barberini family, supported by two angels; According to Fagiolo dell'Arco, the print is an allegory of the golden century of the Barberini family; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**).
