Note: The German painter, architect, draftsman and etcher Marcus Tuscher was active in Rome, and travelled to various cities in Italy. He sojourned briefly in London and was subsequently appointed court painter in Copenhagen; The print depicts the entry into Florence of Francis Stephen, Duke of Lorraine, of Bar, and of Tuscany, and his consort Maria Theresa, Archduchess of Austria, on January 20, 1739 [1738 in "stile fiorentino"]; The entry and procession are shown before a large crowd outside of Porta S. Gallo, Florence, through the triumphal arch designed by Jean Nicolas Jadot, court architect of Francis Stephen; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
