Note: Impressions of the engraving were issued with Plans, coupes et élévations de l'église royale de Frederik V ... (1769); Christiansborg Castle was commissioned by Christian VI to become the royal residence. Several architects were involved with the design and building of the castle and its chapel between 1733 and 1745, including: Elias David Häusser (1687-1745), Niels Eigtved (1701-1754) and Lauritz de Thurah (1706-1759). The chapel seen in the print was destroyed by fire in 1794, and later rebuilt in Neoclassical style; Danish engraver and architect, who was active in Copenhagen and in Paris, where he died in 1770; The print depicts the catafalque designed by Nicolas-Henri Jardin for the obsequies of King Frederick V of Denmark, held in the royal chapel of Christiansborg Castle on February 26, 1766; The pyramidal catafalque stands on a platform decorated with funerary urns, allegorical figures and a personification of Death holding a scythe. An opening in the catafalque, in the shape of a triumphal arch, reveals the coffin of the late ruler. The facade of the catafalque bears an engraved inscription: "ANTE / DIEM" with the initials "FV" in a medallion. Figures stroll around the catafalque, their small size emphasizing the monumental scale of the funeral structure; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
