Note: Shepenupet was an ancient Egyptian princess, daughter of the first Kushite pharaoh Piye, in 25th Dynasty; held the office of Divine Adoratrice (wife) of Amun. She is depicted as a sphinx holding a cult vessel for Amun, with ram's head lid.

German ..... Ebenso wie ihre Vorgänger haben die Könige der 25. Dynastie Prinzessinnnen als "Gemahlin" des Amun eingesetzt. Schepenupet Tochter des Königs Pije Schwester des Königs Taharqo hat eine geradezu königliche Stellung eingenommen. In Tempelreliefs tritt sie allein in königlicher Funktion auf, wohl in der Zeit nach 664 v. Chr., als die Macht in der Thebais noch nicht an die 26. Dynastie übergegenagen war. So weiht sie in ihrer Figur als Sphinx dem Amun ein Kultgefäß mit dem Widderkopf des Gottes. Die Perücke mit den das Gesicht rahmenden, in "Schnecken" endenden Haarteilen ist ein Rückgriff auf ältere Zeiten. Unverkennbar ist auch die darstellung eines "nubischen" Gesichtstyps.
