Note: Historic courthouse located in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana. Replaced an earlier courthouse located in the middle of Central Square. This new structure was noted for being heated with steam, lighted with gas chandeliers, and being fireproof: fireproofing included the original slate roof (now copper) and a method of using dirt and sand to fill the joist space between floor and ceiling. Recognized by the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
