Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque (mosque (building); Anthemios of Tralles (Byzantine architect, ca. 474-ca. 534) ...; original structure dated from ...)
Note: Commissioned as a grand church by the Emperor Justinian, built in Constantinople in the 6th century. The structure, a domed basilica, was built in the amazingly short time of about six years, being completed in 537 CE. The architects were Anthemios of Tralles and Isidore of Miletus. After the city passed to the Ottomans (1454), it became one of the principal mosques of Istanbul.
