Running time: 3 min. 54 sec.

How can contemporary art encourage us to look at art of the past in a new way? Nicole Cohen's installation Please be Seated is an insightful reaction to five 18th-century French chairs in the Getty Museum's collection. This video offers a behind-the-scenes look at the project's inspiration and development, from the creation of all-white replica chairs to videotaping the chairs' original and present-day settings in Paris and Los Angeles, respectively. Museum visitors become a part of the installation as they sit on the replicas and are virtually transported into those spaces through live-video technology. Peggy Fogelman, curator of Please be Seated , narrates this video.
