Sometime before the 1800s, the Museum's painting Hunting on the Lagoon was divided from its lower half, Two Venetian Ladies. Conservators reunited the two halves by slowly piecing together clues in the paintings themselves. These videos explore the evidence that helped conservators reunite the paintings. Woodgrain shows what the woodgrain revealed to conservators. Perspective shows the evidence found in Carpaccio's perspective scheme. Rebuilt shows how the paintings would look when reunited with a second panel, still missing.
