Little is known about the painter Guy-Louis Vernansal. He was a pupil of Charles Le Brun and became a member of the Académie Royale in 1687. He designed tapestries for both the Gobelins and Beauvais tapestry manufactories. Although he was a Frenchman, Vernansal spent much of his life in Italy, especially in Padua and Rome.
