The name of Jean-Baptiste-Simon Rode appears frequently in the inventories of the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne (Royal Furniture Warehouse), for whom he produced suites of carved furniture. He also made the furniture for the private apartments of the comte d'Artois, the brother of Louis XVI. Little else is known about this carver.
