The Master of the Berlin Crucifixion is named after a panel painting of The Crucifixion now in Berlin, one which exhibits the influence of Bruges painter Jan van Eyck. Indeed, the artist's sensitive treatment of light, as well as the majestic forms of the bodies and draperies, clearly recall the painting style of van Eyck. The Master of the Berlin Crucifixion worked as both a panel painter and illuminator of manuscripts, including the complex manuscript now known as the Turin-Milan Hours, to which van Eyck also contributed.
