In 1479, the artist known as the Master of Edward IV illuminated two volumes of a French translation of the Bible for the King of England, Edward IV. The artist's talents lay in the ability to convey narrative in a concise and inventive manner. Figures appear in a variety of poses and are combined adeptly into different groupings. Their faces feature full red lips, rouged cheeks, and straggly hair that starts high on the forehead. The Master of Edward IV has been identified as being active in at least forty-five manuscripts ranging in date from 1470 to 1500 and including both religious and secular works.
