Lecture

From Book to Song: Chant Written and Performed in the Middle Ages
Susan Boynton, professor of music at Columbia University, illustrates the development of musical notations for Gregorian chant from the 900s onward, focusing on the relationship between notation and performance. The lecture draws on examples from the choir books on view in the exhibition; recorded examples of chants will also be played.
