Enjoy kid-friendly activities and exhibits all summer long at the Getty Center! Discover the art of bugs and enjoy free family activities all summer long:

  • Maria Sibylla Merian & Daughters: Women of Art & Science—View beautiful illustrations of flowers and insects by the late-17th-century artist and entomologist Maria Sibylla Merian. In this first exhibition of Merian's work in North America, you'll see The Metamorphosis of the Insects of Suriname, considered one of the greatest illustrated natural history books of all time—and one Merian made working with her two daughters. Also on display are specimens of the actual insects, including a large Morpho butterfly in its various stages of metamorphosis. See it through August 31, 2008.

  • Family Art Lab—Join your children in an outdoor, drop-in workshop designed to exercise the imagination. Make your own work of art and be inspired by what you see. Ofrecida en español. Thursday–Sunday through August 31, 2008, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Getty Center.

  • Family Art Stops—Get up close and personal with a single work of art at this half-hour, hands-on gallery experience geared for families with children ages 5 and up. Ofrecida en español.. Tuesday–Friday through August 29, 2008, at 2:00 and 2:30 p.m. at the Getty Center.

  • Family Festival —Enjoy two flora- and fauna-themed days featuring storytelling, music, art-making workshops, and more. Sunday, June 22, and Saturday, August 2, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Getty Center.

  • Family Drawing Hour: Drawing from Nature—Take inspiration from Merian's work and sketch from nature in the Central Garden. Saturdays, June 14, July 12, and August 30, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. at the Getty Center.

  • Garden Concerts for Kids—Our annual free outdoor concerts for families in August features The Jellydots, Guy Davis, and Elizabeth Mitchell and Family. Saturdays and Sundays, August 8–9, 15–16, and 22–23, 2008, at 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. at the Getty Center.

Pick up your bug kit and souvenir spider at the Children's Shop in the South Pavilion.
