Photographs: Manuel Alvarez Bravo's Poetic Eye

Manuel Alvarez Bravo's photographs, filled with social and political themes, reflect the radical changes that have taken place in post-revolutionary Mexico. Alvarez Bravo began making photographs in the 1920s, when modernist Mexican artists began to celebrate the country's indigenous past. Many of his images capture the contradictions between urban life and personal solitude, revealing the complexities of modern Mexican culture.
