Glassmaking Technique: Cameo Glass

Cameo glass is made by layering different colors of glass. The top layer is partly cut away to create a design that stands out from the background of contrasting color. The first cameo glass was made by the ancient Romans. Watch a demonstration of this method in this video, featuring footage from the Corning Museum of Glass.
