Object Description

This pair of wall lights represents the height of Rococo design, each with two putti frolicking among delicately chased palm branches, flowers and swirling leaves. Their massive scale is particularly notable, indicating that they were surely intended for a large formal room.

Each wall light is stamped with a crowned C, indicating that the tax on the copper alloy had been paid. This tax was only levied between 1745 and 1749, when these lights were made.
