Object Description

Juliet Browner met Man Ray in 1940, and they were married in 1946. She devoted herself to the role of his muse, and he photographed her hundreds of times over the course of their thirty-six years together. Of all Man Ray's models, Juliet was the most enduring and perhaps the most pliable. With a background in modeling and modern dance, she may also have inspired the somewhat more theatrical narrative he began to employ in his images.
