At the bottom right corner of this border, the prophet Zechariah looks up at a vision of Satan assailing the high priest Joshua. Medieval commentators saw a parallel between the Old Testament story of the priest Joshua and Jesus' plight as described in the New Testament. Simon Bening expressed this parallel visually by having Joshua–also unfairly accused–stand next to Satan just as Jesus stands next to Pilate in the facing miniature.
