Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Jean-Baptiste-Claude Sené became a master menuisierwhen he was twenty-one. He supplied the French royal family with furniture and is particularly famous for a bed he made for Marie-Antoinette, the French queen, for the palace of Fontainebleau. By working as an administrator for the new republican government after the French Revolution, he was also able to continue producing furniture, unlike many of his colleagues, who went bankrupt.
