The Master of the Copenhagen Caesar is named for a manuscript containing an account of the Gallic Wars by Julius Caesar now held by the Royal Library, Copenhagen. In this artist's work, the tall figures often feature hair flowing in long, horizontal waves almost perpendicular to their faces. The Master of the Copenhagen Caesar probably began as an assistant in one of the workshops centered in Bruges that specialized in the production of large secular texts, perhaps that of the Master of Edward IV.
