Part-time Limited Term Museum Store Associate, Museum Store Operations, The Getty Villa
The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks a Part-time Limited term Museum Store Associate for our Villa museum location. The person must be able to work weekends, evening hours, and maintain flexible hours. Working under direct supervision, provides courteous service to customers in the Museum Store and at the Museum Store satellite locations. Uses knowledge of products and exhibitions to provide excellent service to Museum Store customers. Receives, unpacks, and shelves incoming merchandise. Matches merchandise received to invoices, checks for damages and identifies discrepancies using a computerized inventory control system. Prepares merchandise for sale in the Museum Store. This includes, but is not limited to, packaging and labeling merchandise and rolling posters. Pulls merchandise for store restocking and packages and prepares merchandise for shipping. May assist in moving large deliveries to the stores warehouse. Restocks Museum Store inventory and operates computerized POS system to answer customer queries and to sell books/merchandise. Maintains appearance of displays and organization of book sections with an emphasis on cleanliness and attention to detail. Qualifications: High school education required. At least 2 years experience in a retail operation, preferably a museum store or specialty bookstore, or some combination of experience sufficient to develop sales, inventory control and cash management skills. Must be able to operate a computer cash register. May occasionally have to move cartons weighing up to 30 pounds. Designer I, Exhibition Design, The J. Paul Getty Museum

The Exhibition Design Department of the J. Paul Getty Museum seeks a Designer I. This position develops original design concepts and solutions for: exhibitions; permanent collection gallery installations; public spaces (interior architecture, space planning, lighting, furnishings, art support); site wayfinding; environmental, promotional and print graphics; and media design. Participates in meetings with design staff and internal clients to define project context, scope and strategy. Communicates with work group participants about project progress. Creates accurate plans, models, drawings, samples and specifications throughout the planning and installation process. Suggests methods, materials and techniques for the presentation of works of art. Develops and maintains appropriate documentation of exhibition design information, specifications and as-built drawings for departmental project files. Provides design support for routine label and signage production. Qualifications: The qualified candidate will have a BA/BFA in Design (Exhibition, Graphic, Industrial, Interior, and Environmental) or Architecture. 1-3 years design experience and working experience and familiarity with Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Vectorworks (AutoCAD). The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks a full-time Senior Museum Store Associate. The person must be able to work weekends, evening hours, and maintain flexible hours. Will be working under general supervision, reporting to Museum Store Supervisor, provides courteous service to customers in the Museum Store and at the Museum Store satellite locations. Uses knowledge of products and exhibitions to provide excellent service to Museum Store customers. Restocks Museum Store inventory and operates computerized POS system to answer customer queries and to sell books/merchandise. Required to work on weekends, to work overtime and to maintain flexible hours. May assist other employees in the execution of quality customer service practices. Provides a high level of customer service to Museum Store customers and Museum Store Associates for non-routine inquiries and difficulties. Be able to demonstrate knowledge of store policies and procedures in order to assist Museum Store Associates with Museum Store selection, current exhibitions and the Getty community. Will assist in training new Museum Store Associates on Museum Store policies, merchandise and use of the POS system, will have cash accountability, prepare bank requests for change and perform cash reconciliation. Be responsible for opening and closing the store and giving guidance to Museum Store Associates in order to accomplish all necessary opening/closing tasks and ensures that Museum Stores's appearance is clean and displays are suitable. May be required to perform Senior Warehouse Associate duties. Compensation: $13.22 per hour. Qualifications: High school education required. Assistant Editor, Getty Publications, The J. Paul Getty Museum

The Publications Department seeks a full-time assistant editor to assist the exhibitions editor in readying exhibitions ephemera for the public. Such ephemera include printed materials (invitations, press kits, and brochures) and exhibition didactic materials (text panels, object labels, and posters). Attends cross-departmental meetings and coordinates comments from design, curatorial, education, and others involved in the exhibitions. Fact checks, copyedits, and proofreads exhibition materials for content, consistency, grammar, punctuation, and Museum style. Corrects manuscripts and galleys on paper and onscreen. Edits and proofreads other small projects (such as signage) as needed. Coordinates with graphic designers to project the publications desired images and sizes. Maintains files and updates reports regarding schedules and work flow. A minimum of 2 to 3 years publishing-related experience, with Bachelors degree in English preferred. Excellent writing and editing skills. Able to handle and prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadline pressure. Proficiency in Word and Excel and willingness to learn In Design required. Preparator, Preparation Department, The J. Paul Getty Museum

Installs and maintains all permanent galleries, special exhibit and temporary exhibition spaces, and art storage areas. Contributes to a safe environment by using appropriate materials, equipment, and methods to display, store and pack works of art. Assists with planning and supervising or directing the fabrication, installation, disassembly and storage of collections and exhibits. Works with exhibition design, conservation, exhibition, registration, preparation, and curatorial staff to fabricate and install exhibitions and supporting materials. Packs and crates art objects and coordinates with registrar for the receipt, delivery, and installation of works of art to and from the airport and other locations. May install, maintain and operate gallery lighting, including computer-controlled skylight and shade systems. May develop gallery and showcase lighting. Work with Facilities staff to troubleshoot, maintain, and develop improvements in the lighting systems. Depending on specific assignment, requires highly developed knowledge and skills in one or more of the following: woodworking, cabinetry, metalworking, plastics, painting and decorative finishes, general construction, art object handling and installation, art object packing and crating, and gallery/exhibition lighting. Software Engineer, Collection Information & Access, The J. Paul Getty Museum

The department of Collection Information & Access at the J. Paul Getty Museum is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to assist as a technical resource for several software packages. The ideal candidate will have experience in all phases of the software development cycle. Works closely with user community for requirements analysis, problem definition and solutions development. Understands and is technically proficient in the environments in which software applications operate (i.e. Unix, Windows) and develops test cases and conducts testing for software solutions, documenting results. Understands the business model and translates requirements into systems design specifications. Designs, develops, codes, tests, troubleshoots and debugs new software, maintains existing applications or implements packaged solutions. The successful candidate will have experience with enterprise-wide applications such as collections management, content management and digital asset management systems. Experience in optimizing complex queries, and proficient working with SQL, PL/SQL, Stored Procedures, DB Triggers and Indexes. Proven experience with custom code; data migration; and preparing development, testing, and production environments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as a team or self-guided is essential. Requirements: Proven experience working with relational databases (oracle 9i/10g), SQL Server and using Structured Query Language to browse and manipulate data and to create scripts; familiarity with C++, JAVA or similar object-oriented programming language; and proficient at UNIX scripting. Possesses general understanding of common technical architectures (e.g. web, client/server); experience using report development tools (e.g., Crystal Reports); familiarity with software development methodologies; skilled with uses of XML and XSLT; and experience working with PowerBuilder and VBA. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5 years software development and implementation experience in a client-server environment.
